Long Day

I'm so tired right now . My husband and I had a very long day. Since we already got the commercial place for our mattress business, things have been really going crazy for us. Dean wants to open the store, if possible next week. There's just a lot of things to do. Today we were able to get the tax ID for the store, went to Home Depot to buy cleaning stuff so we can start cleaning the place, called water and electric companies for our utilities and at the same time Dean was calling mattress companies for our merchandise, etc, etc. Tomorrow will be hectic again, hopefully we'll be able to get the occupational license. I'm debating with myself whether I should I do this opp from Sponsored Reviews. Let's see if I can keep my eyes open and get my brain working .....

Just got home from Chucke E. Cheese's where we celebrated Marc's 9th birthday. It was actually a surprise because we told him that we were just taking him to McDonald's which was totally okay with him. He likes McDonald's just like all the other kids in the whole wide world do. But we wanted to give him more than that. We know how crazy he is about the games at Chuck E Cheese. The chocolate cake was waiting for him at home. His birthday present was a black Nintendo DS. Marc was hungry. Naturally because it's already 2 pm. We had late breakfast so I figured he wont be asking for lunch until around 3. He's funny because he claims to be hungry for something in particular. I told him to fix himself PB&J but he didnt like to because as he said he was hungry for pancakes.

Marielle doesnt like pancakes but I have to make something that both of my kids would eat. Suddenly I got an idea. I remember the last time we went to IHOP Marielle and Marc ordered for chocolate pancakes. So why not chocolate pancakes?

I grabbed the ready-mix pancake that we bought at Sam's Club. 3 cups of the mix plus 2 and 1/4 cups of water make 10 pieces. What I did was dissolve 3 tbs of cocoa powder in the water, add 1 tsp vanilla and then the mix. Voila! chocolate pancakes ready to eat in just 10 minutes. My kids just loved it!

An hour ago, Dean called to say that he's just about to leave Tall Pines. That's the street we're on. He'd been gone for half an hour and he should be at work already at that time. Under His Drill

After weeks of hesitation, I finally got myself under the dentist's drill today. I always dread seeing a dentist. No, dentists dont scare me, it's the procedure that they do on their patients. Two things contributed to my "dentophobia". First is my father who openly displayed his own "dentophobia" when I was growing up. Second was when I saw a classmate in elementary suffered from extreme pain when the dentist, who was there to give free dental services in our school, tried to yank his tooth out. I grew up thinking that dentists are like monsters. That's why everytime I go to the dentist I'm always very nervous.

My dental experience today wasnt bad, except that I have a jaw joint problem and I worried I'd get a locked jaw after keeping my mouth wide open for a long time. My dentist did a filling in two of my molars. The procedure was totally painless so I was really happy. But my dentist isnt done with me yet because I still have 2 more cavities that he needs to take care of. I'm going back on Monday to have more fillings. Last would be a surgical extraction which really is the very thing that scares me the most. I want to get my teeth problem over and done with because it's been bothering me for quite some time now. I only have 2 choices -- to have my teeth fixed now or suffer from pain and eventually lose more teeth.

I actually just love today's Thursday. Today's been really refreshing for me. I received 3 good news, details of which I will talk about some other time. I received bad news too but not bad enough to ruin my day. I guess I can talk about the bad news... one is from Jeff's Auto Body and Paint where we took our van for repair. We were told the van cant be picked up today because they had to place a different headlight. Apparently the first one didnt fit right. Another one is from BBS Computer where we took our other computer also for repair. They said to fix the damage will cost 210 dollars. Who are they kidding? We better buy a new one so we're pulling it out tomorrow.

He decided to quit working at RoomStore. He gave his boss 2-week notice but he was asked to stay for the rest of the month. Well, let's see how it goes. - Scuba diving because I want to explore the jungle underwater.

Quiet New Year

We celebrated the new year very quietly. We hardly even heard any fireworks unlike the 4th of July celebration which is normally louder and people are more excited. Dinner was early at 4 pm. Later that night Dean was calling his family back in Florida while me and the kids played Monopoly and Clue. Dick Clark's New Year Ball show was on so we all watched it while munching on left overs. When the clock struck12 ushering 2008, we all kissed each other. That's all about it. Boring, huh? Iba pa rin kasi sa Pinas, mas masaya dun ang Bagong Taon at Pasko. But we were still grateful that GOD gave us the chance to live 2007 and for all the blessings and even the trials. We all look forward to another blessed year in 2008. We hope and pray, things will be better for us.

The Christmas That Was

Christmas day came and went. Nothing really grand happened. We attended the Chirstmas Eve service in church from 6 to 7 pm. When we got home I was back to the kitchen. I roasted one whole chicken which was already done before we left for church. All I had to do was make mashed potato and gravy. I also made Caesar Salad. I wanted to make gooey brownies for dessert but I was too tired to do it especially after the kids and I made sugar cookies. We had our dinner around 8:30. After that we watched the old black and white movie, "It's A Wonderful Life." We opened our presents around 11:30. That's it. Then we went to bed. Christmas day, we stayed home and did nothing but play board games and eat.

For the New Year's eve, I plan to prepare more food. I'll make roasted caldereta ribs, morcon, sizzling gambas, leche flan and pansit. I wish I could find fresh buko here in the States so I can make buko salad. I will make a sugar-free dessert for Dean too. My mouth is watering just as I'm mentioning these foods here. Anyways, advance Happy New Year everyone!

Wings and Winds

Just got home from dinner at Wild Wings, my favorite place when I'm craving for buffalo wings. Dean prefers Hooters which incidentally just accross from Wild Wings. Today's very chilly and windy. I just hate driving on I-26 and I could feel the wind blowing against the van. I feel like I'm being blown off the lane. It's scary. It's easy to lose control when it's windy so you really have to be more alert. Going home, I didnt take the freeway anymore. I took the long way which meant going through about 10 red lights. At least I felt safer.

My Grannie

Talked to my grannie today on the phone. I miss her so much. She told me she was packing her luggage because she's going to our province on Saturday. And all by herself. She's 85 years old. She's just an amazing woman. I prefer to call her wonderwoman. She's my hero actually. I told her countless of times to take it easy, she's not as strong as she thinks she is! The problem is she forgets that she's already old. Sometimes she's not happy when a stranger politely calls her lola. As she always says, her strength comes from the Lord. And about traveling alone, while everyone is worried about her doing that, she only tells you that God's on her side nothing bad will happen to her. If it's her time to go "home" then amen, so be it, it's all according to God's divine will. I miss her. I hope to see her before she goes "home."

Today Dean came home with a sad news. His co-worker's son's bestfriend died in an accident the other day. She was only 13 years old. The girl stole her mom's car and drove on the freeway to see her boyfriend who allegedly was trying to break up with her. It was reported that a drunk driver hit her but if she had a good judgment in driving she could have avoided the accident. The driver was guilty of DUI absolutely but he couldnt be charged of manslaughter. Why would he be? The girl shouldnt have been in that place at that time. It wasnt her choice to die untimely but it was her choice to steal her mom's car and with no license sped on the interstate highway. Wrong choice she made. I feel so sorry and sad for the family who are grieving her loss. I hope they will find comfort soon as family and friends are praying for them.

These pictures were taken two Sundays ago after church. We were wearing black for our Silent Praise choir. It's a choir wherein we dont sing the song but instead interpret it using sign language. The Silent Praise choir was for the deaf and mute members of the church.

We had to wear dark clothes to show just the movement of our hands. We did "Mary Did You Know?" as early Christmas presentation of the church.

I have a video taken by Dean which I wished he did well. At some point the camera was panned down and then up. He said that was because he wanted to watch us, not through the viewfinder. I will upload it in my blog sometime in the future.

When we got home while waiting for Dean, the kids and I were goofing around the front yard, hence, these pictures.

Star Struck

Well, not really. About 8 years ago, Tess, Tamits, Melba and I went to Manila Hotel supposedly to have a good time in a party hosted by Manila Bulletin and graced by some celebrities. It turned out there was only one celebrity who was there. It was Ara Mina. Ara was a big star at that time, famous for stripping mostly in her movies. The experience was really unforgettable that we wanted to forget but cannot forget because it was hilarious. We went there with really grand expectations. You know -- food, dancing, rubbing elbows with stars. But LOL! big LOL actually. We ended up with hungry stomachs and achy legs. I guess we came too late because there were no more food when we got there. Actually what was served were only finger foods. And there were no chairs, people were standing up the whole time.

No dancing, just long and boring speeches by people we couldnt care less because of starvation. And just to make our trip to that event worth our time and taxi fare and physical agony, we waited for Ara's song number. She sang "Ayayay Pag-Ibig", and we were like "ayayay masakit ang tiyan at binti ko." After a photo opp with Ara, we left the place and probably walked a mile towards the nearest Jollibee for dinner, at 12 midnight. We felt so pathetic but we couldnt stop laughing at what just happened. We swore to ourselves never to attend their party again.

Hi everyone. Opps have been scarce the past three days. Or probably just me who's not very lucky. I finally got one though and I'm glad. Probably because she gets annoyed by Marc when he starts asking questions interrupting the flow of the study. Marc is very inquisitive which is good because it means he's smart and eager to learn. I Drained the Battery

We watched Marielle's first chorus concert tonight at school. Before that we thought she wont be able to make it because just when we were ready to go, our van refused to start. I used the van this morning so I couldnt understand why it suddenly didnt work. We had no choice but call Dean to hurry home to pick us up. At that time he was already about to get off work. Marielle was 20 minutes late but I guess it was not a problem because she said everybody was busy that nobody even noticed that she was late. The performance was very good and the chorus members were so adorable. As to what was wrong with the van, Dean suspected that I probably left something on the whole day. And I was thinking he was right. I admit I'm getting forgetful, maybe a sign of old age. I remember I turned the parking lights on this morning when I took the kids to school and maybe I forgot to turn it off and that drained the battery. I'm still kinda on denial that it was really my fault. I hope it will be okay tomorrow.

Not me who's gonna be busy, it's Marielle. And since I'm gonna be her chaperone, assistant, driver, etc I'm gonna be as busy too. She's part of the school's chorus that's gonna have a series of Christmas concert not only at school but in a number of neighboring counties as well. On Saturday apart from the regular concert at 3:00 pm, she also has a cheerleading to do for a basketball game that's gonna be at 1:30 pm and then there's the opening of the Stingrays hockey game at 7:00 pm, wherein they'll sing the national anthem. I already got my ticket to the game. At first I wasnt sure if should stay but since it's gonna be my very first time to watch a live hockey game, I might just stay for a while.

I had our Chirstmas tree up right after Thanksgiving Day. I thought the tree still looked bare without the presents underneath it. So I started buying little gift items mostly for the kids just so I got something to place underneath the tree. Fortunately, they didnt really wish for anything expensive. Mababaw lang kaligayahan nila. I'm happy that Marielle has found some friends in the neighborhood. My daughter is like me, timid -- the kind who waits to be approached and befriended. But thankfully unlike me, her being bashful is not because of insecurity. She's very confident and in fact surprisingly involved in a lot of things, both academic and extracurricular.

With her in the photo (from the right) are Emma, Jaya and Emma's little sister. This afternoon the girls came to ask if Marielle could come over Emma's house which is actually just next to ours, to play. She stayed there and even had dinner with them.

This Afternoon

Outside this afternoon was so beautiful -- breezy, not too cold in fact it felt so good. The colors of fall still evident on the leaves of the trees made the moment even more dramatic and enticing to become part of nature. I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood along with Cupcake, my JRT doggie. About 100 feet away from the house Marc came up running saying he wanted to join us. I asked Marielle if she wanted to come too but she opted to play with Emma, our neighbor's daughter. We walked up to the Clubhouse where the pool and playground are. Marc and I took the swing while Cupcake barked wildly as we swung up and down. She barks at anything moving actually. And she chases anything running too, with no sense of danger at all that's why she had that accident last year. She chased a cat accross the street and got hit by a truck. Anyways, we walked back home after about 30 minutes. It was a very good 30 minutes with my son and my dog.

Encounter With A Stranger

I was in a book store yesterday, looking for some stuff that I can get my kids as Christmas presents. I was done shopping but I lingered at this book shelf where a huge astronomy book was displayed. I was particularly attracted to the nice color pictures of the different canstellations so I started browsing and reading through some of the pages.

I was so engrossed with the book when suddenly somebody touched my shoulder. I turned around and saw a guy, a white American, with stocky built and a little taller than me. At first, I thought I did something wrong. This is how our exchange was:

stranger: "So you like astronomy, huh?"
me: (my eyes glued on the pages) "Um, I like the stars, galaxy, canstellations ...
stuff like that."
stranger: "You do stargazing?"
me: (still not looking at him) "Sometimes."
stranger: "Do you have a telescope?"
me: "We used to have one but now it's broken."
stranger: "No problem, I will buy you one."
me: (now trying to leave because I start feeling annoyed) "Yeah right... no, but thanks."
stranger: "Hey, I can buy you that book at least."
me: (pretending to be graceful) "You're nice but again, no and thanks anyway."
stranger: "What about a cup of coffee, there's a coffee shop right here in the store."
me: "I know but ... excuse me, I need to go."
stranger: "Wait ..."

I left the place with hurried steps, glancing back to see if he was following me. He wasnt so I felt comfortable again. That was a very weird encounter. I told Dean about it. He said that the guy was obviously hitting on me because I wasnt wearing my wedding ring (Dean's not wearing his either) and I was so naive that I should have left right after he offered a telescope! Actually I knew exactly what the guy was doing. I was just hoping that he was sensitive enough to know I wasnt interested.

My Day Today

After the kids' Thanksgiving break, I didnt feel ready to wake up early again to help them prep up for school. So last night, I set the alarm clock at 6:30 am instead of 6:00 so I could sleep in a little bit more. Only I had to take them to school myself because there's no way they can catch the school bus.

Temperature today was warm surprisingly. It's been really cold the past many days which makes me so tamad to go out. Anyways, at around 11 this morning I went to pick up Dean at RoomStore so we could have lunch together. I wanted us to go to Olive Garden but decided to try the food court in the mall instead. While there I looked around for possible Christmas presents.

After lunch, I went to Wachovia to make a deposit then went to Piggly Wiggly to buy milk and eggs. Then I realized, I got 2 minutes to get home before the kids' school bus comes. I'm always worried because my kids get really petrified when they get home and nobody's there. Good timing though because on my way home the bus was right behind me.

Thanksgiving Feast With The Third Graders

Last Tuesday, Marc and all his fellow third graders had their thanksgiving feast which is actually their yearly tradition before their thanksgiving break. Each student was asked to bring a dish to share with everyone including the parents who were also invited.

To be sure that the food Marc brought was something that everyone would like, I made a Dark Chocolate Cake. Chocolate cake is safe because I think it is a universal dessert. Most people, if not all, like anything chocolate. The feast went very well, and as I expected my cake was one of the best sellers among the desserts.

I have been trying my sewing skills on making an air man to help my husband help advertise RoomStore where he works as a sales associate. We bought the real air man last year in Florida and used it everyday leaving it worn out, torn out and useless. But the fans are still excellent so I suggested that I make the airman myself. I thought it was easy and it really is. I just have to find time to make my own unique pattern and design. All I really needed was 5-6 yards of 60-ins wide flag material. I made a tube, added the arms and voila, he came to life! I named him Rhet because the first time we set him up his arms fell limp and he danced like a retard (retarded). He was so funny, I couldnt stop laughing. I fixed him and now he does his job much better.
